Becker Tournament 2026

TanenbaumCHAT is excited to announce the return of the Israel Becker Basketball Tournament, taking place January 25-28, 2026, marking its 31st anniversary.

The Israel Becker Basketball Tournament was first held in 1995 as a tribute to the memory of alumnus, varsity basketball player, and friend, Israel Becker '88 z”l . This year, we continue to celebrate over three decades of athletic excellence, community spirit, and Israel's lasting impact on TanenbaumCHAT.

The tournament will feature five girls’ teams and four boys’ teams, with participants travelling from Montreal and Israel. Over four action-packed days on and off the court, student-athletes will compete at a high level while building meaningful connections and lifelong friendships.

To commemorate this year’s tournament, Israel's close friends—who were instrumental in organizing the inaugural tournament—are once again leading a fundraising campaign to continue honouring his legacy.

Join the original planners and the entire TanenbaumCHAT community in celebrating Israel's memory by making a donation today.

The inaugural planners are:

David Benoliel
Ronnie Eisen '88
Rob Eklove '88
Joseph Garten '88
Harvey Hazan '82
Eitan Mammon '90
Steven Mincer '88
Joanna Sugar '88
Josh Sugar '90
Marc Valencia '87
Steve Yermus

Thanks to your generous support, last year’s fundraising efforts raised over $40,000. As part of this initiative, Israel’s jersey was retired.
