On Wednesday, September 4, TanenbaumCHAT was humbled to welcome Sapir Cohen. Sapir was kidnapped from Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7
and was released after 55 days in captivity. We are incredibly grateful that Sapir came to our school to recount her harrowing story and be a voice for those — like her
boyfriend, Alex (Sasha) Trufanov — who have yet to be released from Hamas’ captivity. Among the many poignant things Sapir shared with our students was her final
message about Jewish unity: “One of the terrorists showed me images from Hostage Square [on TV] and surprised me by saying, ‘When the Jewish people are together,
they are very, very strong,’” Sapir recalled from an unexpected moment in captivity. “And I believe that maybe the main goal of this war is to make all the
Jewish people come together.”
