Mentorship Network

Need help in your career journey?

TanenbaumCHAT’s Mentorship Network helps young professionals land their dream job. Figuring out what you want to do for the rest of your life is pretty challenging for a young adult. Not only do you need to figure out what you want to do and where to study; you also need to know what skills you need beyond your degree, who you should be talking to, who can help you reach your goals and what you should be doing to land your dream job.

The TanenbaumCHAT Mentorship Network is an alum-to-alum program that matches up mentors and mentees with common work interests, giving mentees honest insight into the ‘real world’ of various industries from the people who work and live these roles on a daily basis. The Mentorship Network helps TanenbaumCHAT graduates of all ages find their way from their current field of study or work to a lucrative and fulfilling career.

The program gives mentees access to professionals in their chosen field, the opportunity to expand their circle and network of contacts and to ask those crucial questions: How do I know this is the right fit? Will I be good at it? What is life like in that particular field? What are the best schools, steps, internships and jobs to help attain this goal?

The benefit of the program is that matches can be as broad or as specific as the mentee wants. For example, the program can introduce a medical student interested in a certain area of medicine to a specialist, or provide a young lawyer who is relocating with a list of contacts in the new city. Mentors can also offer advice beyond curriculum, such as how to balance working while going to school or what professional organizations to join.

Mentors do not have to be TanenbaumCHAT alumni, but all professionals are invited to join the Mentorship Network as a way to give back to aspiring, young adults.

To mentor an eager TanenbaumCHAT student or alum, mentors are asked to meet their mentee (in person, by phone, email or Skype) and offer advice, tips and techniques that will help the mentee achieve his or her career goals. After that, mentors and mentees can continue to stay in touch, and mentees are encouraged to build relationships with other mentors.
