Accessibility Standards

Accessibility Standards Policy

The following policy has been established by The Anne and Max Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto (TanenbaumCHAT) to administer the provision of services with Regulation 191/11, “Integrated Accessibility Standards” (otherwise knows as “Regulation”) under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

These standards are created to break down barriers and increase accessibility for persons with disabilities in the areas of information and communications (1) and employment (2).

TanenbaumCHAT is governed by this policy as well as the Accessibility Standards for Customer Service Policy and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 in meeting the accessibility needs of persons with disabilities.

Statement of Commitment

TanenbaumCHAT is committed to ensuring equal opportunity and participation for all persons with disabilities.  We are dedicated to treating people with disabilities in a way that permits them to keep their dignity and independence.

We believe in integration and equality and promise to meet their needs in a timely manner.  We will work hard in removing and/or preventing barriers to accessibility by meeting accessibility requirements under the AODA.

Training

TanenbaumCHAT will provide all staff and volunteers with training in Ontario’s accessibility laws and aspects of the Ontario Human Code that relate to persons with disability.  The training will be suitable as it relates to a specific role. 

We will continue to train when changes are made to the policy and all new employees will be trained as soon as possible.

TanenbaumCHAT will keep records of all staff and volunteer training.

Accessibility Plan

TanenbaumCHAT will develop and maintain a multi-year Accessibility Plan.  It will outline our approach to removing and preventing barriers in the workplace and how we will expand accessibility to all people with disabilities.

The Accessibility Plan will be reviewed and updated every three years and will be posted on TanenbaumCHAT’s website.

 

Self-Service Kiosks

TanenbaumCHAT does not currently have any self-service kiosks but will incorporate all accessibility features should we get some in the future.

  1. INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS STANDARDS

Accessible Formats and Communication Supports

TanenbaumCHAT will provide, upon request, communication in various formats and communication supports.  When requested, we will work with the individual to find the best suited solution within a timely manner.

Accessible Website and Web Content

TanenbaumCHAT will ensure that our website and any web content is accessible and compliant with the WCAG 2.0 guidelines. 

Feedback

TanenbaumCHAT will continue to ensure that its procedure for receiving and responding to feedback is accessible to persons with disabilities by providing or arranging for the provision of accessible formats and communications supports, upon request.

  1. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Recruitment and Hiring

TanenbaumCHAT will notify its employees, potential hires and the public that accommodations can and will be made during the recruitment and hiring process.  Once hired, TanenbaumCHAT will notify the successful applicant of its policies for accommodating employees with disabilities.

Individualized Accommodation Plans

TanenbaumCHAT will maintain a written process of all accommodation requests.  When requested, an employee will be consulted with to create an accommodation plan and will be supplied with an accessible format if needed.

Workplace Emergency Response Information

TanenbaumCHAT will work with any staff with a disability, permanent or temporary, to develop an individualized emergency response plan in case of an emergency.  All medical conditions and information will be kept confident and only shared with consent.

Existing Policies

We will adjust or remove any existing policy that does not respect and endorse dignity and independence of people with disabilities.
